Nominated Competent Person

Every project now requires a clearly identified Nominated Competent Person responsible for compliance and competence. This page outlines what this means for you and how to meet the requirements.

What is a Nominated Competent Person?

Under the Building Regulations, those carrying out building work must be competent and have the appropriate skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours to fulfil their duties. As part of the NFRC Competent Person Scheme, each registered business must nominate a Nominated Competent Person (NCP) who is responsible for demonstrating competence and ensuring that roofing work self-certified through the Scheme complies with the relevant Building Regulations and recognised industry standards.

What does this mean for CPS registered contractors?

You must provide us with the name and contact information of your Nominated Competent Person, and you must inform us whenever this person changes. If you are the Nominated Competent Person for your roofing business, you must let us know and provide us with the relevant documentation to confirm your competence.

How is the Competent Person Scheme managing this process?

We are reviewing the information we hold regarding your Nominated Competent Person. If you need to update this information, you can do so using this form here.

We are introducing Certchain - a new competency management platform to help you manage your documentation and ensure our scheme remains compliant with UKAS.

If we have information about your Nominated Competent Person, we will upload to our new platform and issue a certificate of competence. This will be in place until your next renewal.

You will need to verify the knowledge, skills and experience of your Nominated Competent Person at your next renewal in order to maintain your CPS registered contractor status. After this, we will ask for verification every three years, or if your NCP changes.
